| I am going to mount a pointsight on my rifle should I go 30+mm or 50+mm??? Smaller site or bigger site. I would assume the 50mm site is easier to acquire quicker. Your opinions please! |

I assume you are talking about red dot sights. Unlike a rifle scope you shoot red dot sights with both eyes open so the diameter of the tube is not really a concern. What you should be more concerned with is the size of the dot which is expressed in MOA. MOA= minuite of angle=1.047 inches at 100 yards So if the dot is 3 MOA then that means that it covers 3.141 inches at 100 yards, 6.282 inches at 200 yards,9.423 inches at 300 yards,etc....... If you get one of the red dot sights for a pistol which has a 3-7 MOA dot it will make accurate shooting hard when the dot is larger than your target. |
Thanks that is a good part of the info I needded. Width of the overall sight doesn't help with fast acquisition???? |

Tube width is less important than the reticle, which includes the option of other-than-dot views. The circle around dot of the Eotech or PK-AS allows fast targeting with the circle area, and precision with the much smaller dot in the middle. The dot over chevron option on a Kobra is another example. As long as the tube/hoop is not tiny, and the frame does not clutter up the side of the view area, then size does not matter. |
