I don't remember a thread that focused on precision aiming with a red dot although it has probably came up.
When I look through a red dot I see a group of grapes like usual but the group is always shaped in a clump that goes from high on the left and lower on the right. I have 8 rifles with red dots of varying brands and they all appear the same shape red dot. I have got in the habit of zeroing off the top left side of the dot rather than the center because I can get tighter groups that way.

Is what I do the normal or am I the first?

Astigmatism.  At least that's what's causing it for me.  I usually try to shoot with the minimum brightness I can to minimize the grapes.  Otherwise the grapes are a good 3-4MOA, so I can usually hit what I want at 100yds.

I have astigmatism also but what works for me is (assuming you have the capability) turn the intensity down to adjust for the light you are shooting in until the dot is as round as it possibly can be. The red dot obviously isn't a precision sight, it's for quick close in acquisition, but if your using it for precision you don't need it at its brightest setting.

I've found that the smaller 2MOA dots are easier for me to mitigate the blooming dot with my astigmatism. The bloom also goes away when I focus on the target.

Yup, astigmatism. Without glasses my dots have a 'ghost' image at 9 oclock, lowering the intensity of the dot seems to help. Even with glasses it's still there but light enough it can easily be ignored.
