I took my AK out for the first time today. It shoots with much stiffer recoil than the one I rented last month. The recoil didn't bother me at all except the short LOP meant my face was too close to the rifle during recoil, but I didn't feel discomfort otherwise.
Anyway I have a wood stock and it appears to have an aluminum recoil pad with ridges.  Can you recommend something?

These work well and are available from numerous sources:  http://www.centerfiresystems.com/PADAKA02.aspx

I asked Atlantic and here is their response:

I'm sorry we do not offer a recoil pad for that weapon most AK 40 Seven's never had recoil pads other than metal buttplates

You can try looking in the hunting section of any major retailer and they might have some buttpads that you shave down to fit a stock. Otherwise, there aren't any factory type rubber screw-on AK type buttpads that I'm aware of.
