Picked up a side plate mounted scope mount from Centerfire because I liked the adjustment options which includes high enough to see the iron sights also, if you want.
Mount info Can't get the top rail to center over the barrel. Adjustment limits leaves rail about 1/8" right of center. Am I missing something? I guess I could drill and tap another set of adjustment screw holes, but would prefer to make this work as is. Main purpose will be to shoot with the iron sights, then immediately check where I hit without putting the gun down. I'd still like it dialed in, though. http://www.centerfiresystems.com/productimages/mounts/MNT-AKA02-D.jpg |

Variation in side rail thickness/design can cause a mount to center on one rifle and not on another. Also, some mounts that advertise as being centered with the bore simply aren't to a small degree, I've found that out firsthand. For $35, I wouldn't expect too much from a mount, even with the built-in adjustments. I've modified some high dollar, highly irreplaceable pieces before, a mount as cheap/common as the one you have I wouldn't think twice about it. I'd drill and tap that thing in a heartbeat. Not being centered over the bore isn't the end of the world either, thousands of AKs all over the world run optics not centered over the bore, often with a much greater offset than 1/8". |
