i've recently purchased an sgl-21 and i am looking to pick up a side mount kobra red dot (model ekp-1s-03 if i'm not mistaken). i know there has been something of a drought lately, tantal stopped selling them and everyone else seems to either be sold out or $$$ gouging.
so... anyone have a reasonably priced, reliable source for a kobra? maybe a private seller who wants to part with theirs? |
|
Eastwave lists them on their site, not cheap. Might want to e-mail them to confirm they actually have them. Link Otherwise, they do pop up in the EE or on Gunbroker once in a while. |
|
i'll check gunbroker
what's out there worth looking at other than the kobra? my requirements are: side mount, unmagnified, and not offset (i'm a lefty). anything else and i'm game. tritium would be nice... something along the lines of a trijicon reflex sight maybe? |
| Eastwave.ca has a lot of good red dot scopes that fit your criteria. I was going to buy a PK-A from them until I found that Kobra on GB. Eastwave is only asking $176 for it. (But they want $27 in shipping.) But overall, for a decent side mounted AK red dot scope, I think that's okay. The PK-A sits right over the top of the dust cover, so it works for leftys. |

i'm liking the pk-a more and more as i read about it, price is very attractive as well... anyone have both pk-a and a kobra that they can compare? which one is better?
okie, got one more question for ya –– are ALL pk-a sights centered or do i have to look for a specific non-offset model? |
|
All of the PK-As I have seen are centered over the top of the rifle. I thought you wanted one like that. Or am I mistaken? Anyway, the best price I found was at Eastwave. As for comparison, I couldn't tell you since I've never tried out a PK-A. They seem to be very rugged. I think the only drawback when you compare it to the Kobra is that the PK-A only gives you a dot reticle, whereas the Kobra gives you many different options in reticles.
One bit of advice though with regard to the PK-A line. I found a type of PK-A on Kalinka Optics that also had a laser on it. (It really appealed to a gadget/gun freak like me.) They are asking about $245 I think for this model. East Wave does not carry this model, so I asked them about it. Dmitri from East Wave promptly got back to me and explained that a laser on the PK-A was ineffective and a waste of money. If you want to find out more about the Kobra, I learned a lot by going to the Tantal website. Very helpful. |

What about this site? http://www.binocularsmart.com/scopes/kobra-cobra-red-dot-rifle-scope-sight-ak-akm-svd-sks-tigr-saiga.shtml Seems like a lot better price if its the same thing. I was just going to start a thread asking about that scope from that website. Their site looks strange to me. I have heard good things about eastwave but the shipping prices are high and the optic costs more. Still less than Kalinka though. |

They're sold out everywhere because they're out of production. No more MSRP... they cost what someone's willing to pay. |

The binocularsmart website was the first one I found when I initially began looking. Let me say this; I wouldn't order anything from them for a few reasons. They offer their products at ridiculously low prices. Too low to be real in my opinion. Anytime I tried to click on another scope on their site, or perform a search, it came back as a bad request. Finally, I'm always leery about putting my personal or credit card info out there on the net, and some of the worst places to do that is Russian or eastern European sites. They lead the world in credit card fraud. Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. |

No, it is offset to the left.
hmm, this seems to conflict what others have said in this thread. not saying you're wrong, i just always seem to get different answers depending on who i ask Trust me, I use to own one. It is slightly offset to the left - similar to a POSP/PSO scope. |
Man Im thankful I picked up a Gen 2 when they were $120 ![]() Mine has worked great for the seven years Ive had it. It uses the coin type battery that last for like 5 days if left on (yes I have left in on that long) If you pick up one youll be very happy with its performance. Even a used one that works should be good to go since they have proven to be tough. |

I can assure you that it is not centered. No PK-A optics are centered over the bore. There are versions of the PK-01 that are centered. There is also a PK-AA that is centered over the bore. PK-AA PK-01VS Both of these also co-witness. |
