Thinking about getting a IP78 for a SGL31. I understand you can only purchase them from Kalinka. I have read a few posts that described the purchase from Kalinka as less than satisfactory. I'm wondering if you have had a recent experience if you can post how it went and more importantly if anyone has recent experience purchasing this optic from Kalinka - say in the last couple of months.
Thanks, William |

Don't buy from Kalinka; they claim to sell new products, but they actually sell factory rejects. I understand you had a bad experience with them, but that does not mean they simply only sell factory rejects. I and many others have purchased from Kalinka with no problems from the service or product. When it comes to the 1P78; I would email them and express your concerns about GT's purchases, and tell them that you don't wont either of those bad optics or you will send them back. |

Not to discount what happened to GTwannabe, but I've had nothing but positive experiences with Kalinka. Andrew has always done right by me. +1 to this GT got jacked and that bugs me, but I have always had really good experience with Kalinka. I ordered my Rakurz during the same timeframe he ran into trouble with Kalinka and it was a smooth and easy deal just like always, in fact they said it was coming from the Ukraine in a few weeks, I got it in a couple days. Apparently they had one in stock after all. So while I'm not happy with how the 1P78 deal went down for GT, personally I will order from Kalinka again when I need another scope. They've always been solid for me over the past 5 years. Z |

Liquidmetal / Citadel- You make a lot of sense. I will e-mail them. Although I am wondering why they don't have a contact telephone number listed. Not so unusual but would be nicer if the listed a telephone number. Thanks, William Good luck with that... on Thursday "Scott" left a voicemail regarding my order (yeah, the one from early JUNE). He had caller ID blocking and didn't leave a call back number; wanted me to email him. You might get lucky and get a good one... or you might waste a bunch of money shipping defective units back to Kalinka only to have them try to stick you with a worse scope than the original. |

Same optic different question. The info on Kalinka's site indicates optic is graduated from from 400 to 700 m. What does one use for 100m? Thanks, Will The top chevron is used for 1-400m. Use the thickness of the chevron - tip for 100m etc. There is a dot under the first chevron for 500m, and then the remaining chevrons for 6 and 700m. I have shot out to 400m with it, and it seems about right. I can hit a 12"x18'" steel plate@400m by centering or bracketing the plate within the first chevron. Have not gone out any further to test the other chevrons though. |

Quoted: They have never replied to a single email that I have ever sent them... Eastwave on the other hand had terrific customer service. Eastwave is great, no doubt about it. Kalinka has been very good about replying to my e-mails, I can only think of one that went unanswered. |

Thanks for posting this, I am in a similar situation.
I tried to get that same scope about 6 months ago, and ran into the same things you did. I ended up getting the P.O. from eastwave and i Love it. I am again trying to get this scope from Kalinka, i have had 2 emails answered by them in the last 2 days. According to them, they do have them in stock, and can ship in 2-3 days. I also adressed the issues with defective scopes, and was told that it was an isolated incident. If anyone wants to see the email traffic, let me know and i can send it to you but it may take a few days as i am heading to a field op. |

After a few weeks of distractions I ordered a IP78 from Kalinka today. I will let everyone know my experience with Kalinka. I'm assuming everything will go smoothly. I will be mounting this on a SGL 31 and looking forward to using this soon. Hope it goes well for you. However, I suggest video recording the unboxing and inspection of the merchandise. That way you can threaten to post it on YouTube when they claim that the defective scope was "perfect when shipped out" and they refuse to honor their warranty. |

I just wanted to let everyone know the IP78 arrived from Kalinka. I ordered it on Tuesday afternoon late and I received it this afternoon, Friday. Not bad for living about 1300 miles away from the shipping point.
I am really pleased. It arrived in absolutely pristine condition with all of its accessories. I mounted it on my SGL 31 and I really liked everything about the scope,FOV, clarity and size. I would not hesitate to buy from Kalinka again. I appreciate everyone's recommendation about the optic and I'm looking forward to using it this weekend. Thanks !!! |

You know you have to post pics now right. |
| From the user manual / booklet the serial number is 09053 and it looks like it was made 01.22.2010. That might be the inspection date I'm not sure. The scope is downstairs - I'll look to see if that matches tomorrow. I have a Russian speaking friend at work and I will have them go through the manual with me next week. |
