I now have in my collection an AK74 with the side folding triangular stock. I'm trying to figure out the most practical or intended way to sling carry this rifle with the stock in the extended position. With the stock folded, it seems pretty simple because the sling loops are on the same side of the gun, but with the stock locked open they're on opposite sides. Am I reading too much into this or is there a special way to use the sling on these types of AKs?

Think simple. The sling just rides on both sides of the rifle.

You can also clip the front snap to the rear swivel and use the sling as a one point. BSW

I removed the swivel from the right side of the stock and it installed it on the left side of the 74M stock and "inside" the AKS stock. I then use a Spector or Blackhawk single point sling. This is probably the best method, however you have to be careful when folding to not get all tangled up. It can be done with care, however. I also have a Russian AKS stock that I got on trade and I had a sling swivel drilled into the left side of the stock, though this was alot more trouble and didn't provide a better solution than the above.

Personally, unless my gun is it my discrete/hidden case in my truck, the stock is extended. I care way more about being able to wear the gun comfortably and employ it rapidly should I need to than the ability to fold it in a hurry.

As the above poster mentioned, instead of clipping your sling to the front of the rifle, you can clip it to the rear swivel and make an improvised single point. This is what many end users do and is probably the easiest method and yields good results.
