Right now I have the front of my sling attached to a small carabiner and run between the barrel and the gas tube to the mount on the left side of the rifle but obviously this is not ideal.  what are some ways that you guys have attached a sling to an AK rifle for left handed carry.  words are good, links are better, pictures are best.

please keep in mind i do not want a single point setup so those suggestions need not apply

thanks!

i'd considered buying another front retainer, cutting off the sling part, and welding it to my front retainer to make an ambi solution.  but i've not gotten there yet.  a few have screwed sling swivel studs into the "proper" side of the stock, including one i saw on an underfolder.

Actually not that hard to do.

Did you add those or are they built into the furniture?

I added them to the furniture.
The front is bolted to the head shield inside the hand guard, the rear is a little tougher, as you have to space it a bit from the opposite side of the stock where the factory sling hardware covers the bolt holding it in.

That is exactly what I used.

The front is secured to the heat shield by a stainless pan head screw and bolt, filed down a little at an angle to clear the barrel. Make sure you have the heat shield in the right location or the lower hand guard will be a pretty tight fit!

The rear is a little trickier, drilling through a new Warsaw Pact length stock and hoping for the right location actually isn't as difficult as it sounds, once you see how the retainer for the sling swivel is located. Basically go right throught the middle of this, then once the hole is the right size for the new swivel to fit into the stock, some fitting will be required with teh retainer for the old sling mount, you'll have to get a nylon spacer (Lowes, Home Depot have good selections) or make your own to have the swivel just barely protruding from the stock.  Bolt it in after making a little relief to in the opposite side to allow the nut to sit flush under the old sling hardware.

With this left handed sling setup, this AK has joined a few others as a "go-to" gun at my place.

i went a different route as i have a new set of ironwood furniture on my yugo and did not want to drill any holes in it..

i put the front part

thru the top and bottom handguards

and the buttstock speaks for itself..the gas tube has not melted anything after a couple thousand rounds and it is so easy to carry now on my hikes thru the national forest!!.. the front part was bought here
