POSP are Russian military issue optics that have been in service for decades and used extensively in combat, they have a solid reputation earned by heavy use in a lot of armies. The optical quality is very good imo, but I am coming from a M16/M4 iron sight Army training mentality, not a US sniper trained with optics background, so maybe I am not the best to compare sheer optical quality. In that context, I wouldn't say that the optics are in the same league as Leopold, but they are built rugged and have way higher quality than NC Star or other budget optics like less expensive Bushnells for example. Electronically the illuminated reticule feature is built rock solid. I've never had a failure of any sort with the ones I have and a few of them have taken some really hard knocks during accidental drops. They also hold their zero very well even after being removed for cleaning. I'd say dollar for dollar they are the most under-priced quality optics on the market for what you get, which is pretty darn good imo. They aren't the highest quality possible, perhaps not even sniper grade, but anything US /European made is typically high dollar for high quality and I'd say most of that stuff isn't nearly as tough as the POSP series. Coming from the infantry mentality I know I'd rather use something like an ACOG or a POSP that can take some knocks and stay zeroed, rather than religiously guard my high end optic from any disturbance. | The std 4x24 tends to be a bit yellowish from the glare coating, while higher end models are more clear, and the PO3.5x rivals my 1-5 Loopy clarity. The main value in the series in Tonka Tuffness for the mount, glass and dials. Electronics may suffer on occasion, usually a contact issue that either shows soon or never happens. My 4-8x weaver base model has served well on anything from FAL to AR to 10/22, and really tweaks the purists :) |
