Many times at the gunshows, or on the EE we will pass by a mag because it appears scratched. Here is an example of what can be done with simple car care chemicals.....

This is what I bought....

This is AFTER the Jeepcreep treatment!

...exact same mags... I have $100 invested in the 2 (combined price) 45 round mags! Deals are out there!

Jeep,
I purchased two chicom mags that were bring backs from Afganistan.  They looked bad but I got them both for $4.  I took them apart and cleaned out all the grease and sand.  Next, I used some 240 grit paper to get off the rust/bad paint and cleaned them with gun scrub.  Last but not least was several light coats of Rust-Olem flat black.  Now everyone thinks they are new mags!  Not bad for 4 bucks.

how does rustolem hold up? Does it scratch or peel off?

I painted them about two months ago and have used them several times.  So far the finish is holding up well.  If it does get damaged you can hit it with a bit more RO and you are back to good as new.

Jeep,

Did you use a standard plastic cleaner, or some dashboard cleaner....??

I started off with some rubbing compound (Red), then polishing compound (white), then haze remover(plastic scratch remover). The final thing I did was treated them with a product from Home Depot called "Counter Majic" it is made for cleaning counter tops.

Think, I'll need to go trough my box of car cleaning supplies.
