I bought a surplus Yugo bolt hold open 30 rd magazine and the follower is bent/warped in a fashion that prevents reliable feeding of the magazine. I installed a spare non-bolt hold open follower in the magazine body and it works perfectly. However, I am concerned that due to the fact that the magazine body causes the standard follower to act as a bolt hold open follower, it is going to cause damage to the follower. Has anybody tried using a standard follower in one of these magazines? The Yugo magazine body does not have the inner shelf (or lip) which prevents a standard follower from rising too high to prevent the bolt from contacting the back side of the follower, thus causing it to function as would a bolt hold open follower. Sorry for the lengthy description, but I'm not sure how else to ask the question, as I am very new to the AK platform.

I would not worry about it.

Sounds like you did what I would do with a Yugo mag. Disable the hold open feature.

Some folks like that feature, I don't on an AK.
