| Aight so my local gunshop worker told me there are about 3 different ak mags - (7.62) and you have to fit them to the gun. I opened my lowcap wasr 10 to fit 30rds that i bought but my buddy's 75 rd drum would not fit(too big) so is this right - there are differnt size ak mags? The mags i have now are junk - could they be that far of in size? Is there a specific template i need to folow(measurments) to mill out my reciever? |
I think you were fed some classic gun shop B.S. |

WTF!? thats exactly what i thought - the guy was tryin to feed me bullshit about ar's i thought maybe this was true - but why should it be!? There is 1 gunshop out of the 5 around here that I am going to now - all the other ones are bullshit city and it pisses me off. You ask a simple questin and cannot get a strait answer. You guys rock. |
How far did you open the mag well? Did you just have at it with a dremel until you got to a point you thought was right? You might need to clean that up a little to make the mags fit correctly. |

He may be partially correct. While AK mags in general will fit AK's in general, there are a few exceptions. Valmets, Galils, and Russian sporterized AK's all use unique magazines. Yours on the other hand should accept any AK magazine whether it be US made, Bulgarian, Chinese, Egyptian, German, Romanian, and so on. You might want to check to see if the lower was milled out correctly. You can find a very inexpensive set of calipers at an auto parts store to make accurate measurements with. Take a few measurements of your AK mags and then check that against the clearance in your receiver. You never did say exactly how the mags would not fit your gun. Would they not fit into the magazine well? Would they not lock in with the magazine latch? If they did fit and lock were they at the correct angle to feed properly? |
| The Bulgarian Waffle 7.62x39 mags are generally the snuggest fit. The dimensions vary on the mags somewhat but it just manufacturing tolerances. The waffles are just a little meater than the steel mags. Try several different country mags and fit to the largest and you will be good to go. |
damn I guess the OP is just out of luck.

It was stocker's in champion - if your from NE ohio slugmasters is the best. |

some ak mags can be larger in width than others. I have a romy G i built on a OOW reciever and polish slabsides and romy's fit fine. But yugo the couple of Yugo BHO's and some of my chinese won't fit in it. I need to hit the magwell lightly on the sides with a file and I should be good to go. Sounds like you need to open up your mag well just a hair. |
Was wrong on the gun shop, but sounds like some BS old english would pull. |
