not sure if this is where to post, or if this has been discussed before but im new here so forgive me...ive been longing for a vepr in 7.62x39 but since that doesnt seem too realistic these days i was thinking of getting one in 5.45...i was wondering if anyone had any info for me on the power of the 5.45 vs the 7.62...ive read stuff online saying its more accurate than 7.62 and tumbles when it strikes an object...i just wanted opinions from those who have used the cartridge before on whether or not its a good alternative to 7.62x39

thanx

The only downside is that 5.45 ammo is a PIA to get these days.

Love the 5.45 round, it is a joy to shoot. Basically no recoil, accurate, and plenty effective at killing stuff. Much more enjoyable round to shoot, IMHO, than 7.62x39. Is a pain to find though.......

Depends on what you want from your rifle.

If you want to have fun and tear shit up, 7.62x39 is the way to go

If you want more of a target rifle, I'd recommend 5.45x39

Yup, nothing dispatches old appliances better from an AK. 5.45 and 5.56 are 'same but different'

Std civilian spec 5.45 glides into old LP tanks at 100 just fine, tumbles well in groundhogs, flies rather flat to 200yds
