Just another marketing name for Barnaul ammo.

Sorry i am new to the whole AK board (former ar15 owner).  Does that mean it is good quality and non corrosive?  I read the barnaul sticky thread and it was just a big argument about who knows the word of the real source.  Didnt really tell me much about the ammo.

Barnual is decent shooting fodder. In my experience, it shot better than the Wolf brand. And it is non-corrosive. Pretty much all Russian commercial made ammo can vary from lot to lot in terms of quality and accuracy. Priced right, I have no quams in buying more of it.

And also, I have shot the same Monarch branded ammo from Academy with no problems.

I've shot it side by side with Wolf, and it seems hotter than Wolf.  Other than that, it works well.

Rifle is WASR-10 GP.

The only difference between Monarch and Barnual is the box.

$3 a box for X39 is too damn high! That works out to $150 a case and if your in Texas another $12 in sales tax! That's .16 a round!

Please tell me that some of the former Iron Curtain nations are going to start competing with the Russians for our ammo business! I have seen some Hungarian MFS ammo lately but not a whole lot else. Where's the Bulgarian ammo, what about Czech, Romanian????? It's not like they have "booming" economies. I would think something they could sell for dollars, using plants they already have, employing their own, would be a no brainer!

Click on hunting then ammo. The price is $2.86 now and they run it on sale every couple of months for $2.49. While still high priced they have it in stock all the time.

At the $2.50 price it works out to be about $135/1k. Still not great. I really hope that Barnaul has another outlet for this ammo though Academy can probably handle a huge volume of it.

If you get that discount that brings you down to $2/box which is decent right now.  I have shot lots of it, pretty decent, passes for non-corrosive, seems to be good plinking stuff for my purposes.  A few rounds have had hard primers in the past but by and large very good quality in the lots I have encountered.
