PMC ammo problem > Ammunition

I did not think of posting this until I saw a message on the AR-15 ammo board regarding a problem with PMC ammo. I replied because I also had a problem and thought I would post it here also.

I just wanted to let everyone know the results of the matter. I origanally posted a little over a month ago about my UZI and M11/9-SD SMG's which were damaged by what apeared to be some undercharged rounds. The rounds lodged in the barrels of the SMG's, then were struck by subsequent rounds.

I contacted PMC ammo andspoke with them in person as well as communicated via fax and email. They were always polite, and seemed to be seriously concerned at the problem.

Without going into all the details, here is what I can telly you. PMC tested the remainder of the ammunition and did not find any reamining out of spec ammo. They notified me of this, but it was not over. PMC agreed to the repairs of both the guns in question.

I am not telling this to everyone so that they will try and blame an ammunition manufacturer everytime there is a problem with their gun. I do, however, want people to know that PMC stands behind their product, and that they did the honorable thing in this case. I will probably use PMC ammo in the future, but I will probably not do so in any sort of full-auto firearm. This is my choice as a result of "once bitten, twice shy."

Hmm, that's interesting. I shot a 20 round box of PMC 7.62 x 39 in an SKS I bought a year ago or so along with one box of PMC at the gun store. I shot it up just a couple weeks ago.

About half the PMC rounds or more were underpowered and failed to cycle the bolt completely or else caused the casing to get jammed against the bolt carrier when extracting. I know it was the PMC ammo because I fired some Wolf and Barnaul at the same time and both fired without any problems (over 100 rounds). The Barnaul blue box was especially dramatic, kicking the shell casings out 10 feet or more!

I will never buy PMC after my experience and reading this. They obviously have a serious quality control problem with some bad powder they would not admit to you (directly that is - fixing your weapons says it indirectly). I feel lucky I did not have a jammed round in the barrel and a catasthrophic failure.

PMC has improved greatly in quality in the past few years. That being said, it was crap and had a long ways to go.

I don't shoot their ammo. I have never had a problem this bad, but I would stick to Russian or European imports for the AK.

I think this is an extreeme case though.

The Barnaul blue box was especially dramatic, kicking the shell casings out 10 feet or more!

Barnaul blue box casings shoot out about 30-50 feet to my right. I'm in the left-most lane of the 100yd lanes and it goes all the way to the 50yd shooters.

It shouldn't be doing that. Seriously..... if it is you are going to have problems down the road from excessive wear.

Do you have a different spring or something in there?
