| Have any of you guys used the Herter's 154 gr. soft point for plunking or hunting? I bought a bunch at a gun show but have not fired any of it yet. Pretty good sized bullet for 7.62x39. OAL is about 2.188 or so, fits in the mag. |

I've been using the Herter's 154 grain soft points. It's just repackaged Russian surplus ammo. Every box I've bought was actually TulAmmo. I've gotten good accuracy at 100 yards, great expansion, and have never had a fail to feed or fail to fire (impressive because I'm shooting a mini-30 instead of an AK and the mini-30 usually has problems with Russian ammo.) Check the to see if there is any 154 grain ammo in original Russian packaging because it might be cheaper and would be the same ammo.
I would recommend it. I prefer shooting as heavy a bullet as possible and in 7.62 Soviet this is it. It'll pretty much fold a coyote in half out to 200 yards, but I haven't shot anything larger than that with it. |

I ran it almost exclusively in my AR pistol.
You can get it on sale for 4$/box, and they have a 5-10% (depending on store) discount for mil/fire/le,etc Makes it less than $200/1000, even with taxes.... I had a lot of failures with the FMJ, but never with the SP.. |
