just picked up a new bulgy ak74 and ordered some ammo for it
$130 for 750 rds of silver bear or $180 for 750rds of wolf i went with silver bear but was told after by a friend that the silver bear is corrosive...any truth to this? if so ill go with the wolf next time i know it says non corrosive on the box but he says its "mildly" corrosive still thanks |
| First, ammo is either corrosive or non-corrossive; it's like pregnant or not pregnant , no such thing as "mildly" pregnant. Second to my knowlege no commerically packaged Russian ammo is or was corrosive. I've shot all the bears, tigers, wolf, and so on and never had an issue.Your friend has been misinformed. |

+1 on the Silver Bear being good stuff.
I have put a few hundred rounds of it through my NDS-2 and have had no problems whatsoever. It is NOT corrosive. If you have a 74 style muzzle device, and do not clean your rifle for a while, you will find green residue inside the compensator. This is copper fouling from the bullets that is starting to oxidize, and is not corrosion of the steel. Also, the end of the muzzle may start to look like it's corroding due to the increased carbon build up caused by the compensator. |

Your friend is stupid or is a liar. Silver Bear is excellent, non-corrosive ammunition. Yes, THIS. Boy am I sick of internet-educated retards who are self-annointed experts. Prob'ly couldn't poor piss out of a boot with instructions on the heel ................ Anyway I've shot hundreds of rounds of 5.45mm SB & left the guns alone for long periods of time. In Florida, humidity central. Just like the box says, it is non-corrosive. One of the most consistent rounds too in all my 5.45 rifles. It is currently cheaper than Wolf, you made the right purchase. |

OR...maybe he's smarter than us all and is starting that rumor to keep the prices lower than Wolf lol! I LOVE silver bear! BTW...why does J&Gsales want $10 for a box of 30! |
