Guy at the range pointed out that wolf ammo uses a steel projectile with a copper wash and suggested that it is really hard on barrels. Said the copper wash does nothing and it is basically a steel on steel situation that will wear your barrel out fast.

Rather then pretending, let's talk reality. I, and many others, have been shooting steel jacketed bullets through AKs for decades.
If the barrels wore out we'd know it. They don't, despite uninformed speculation to the contrary. I have to assume that US barrel makers can make as good a barrel as the Communists made. |

The bullet have a quite soft steel jacket and lead as a filler, Its no problem with increased wear on the barrel. |

That's because it can (most likely will) damage their (very expensive) backstop/bullet collection apparatus. Not because it might do anything to your rifle. If the bullets don't penetrate the plates (which it highly likely) and it causes a crater instead which in turn can cause bullets to bounce back from lesser calibers. I have seen it happen, their concern/rule against, is valid. |

Go back and ask him why a magnet will not attract the bullet in Wolf ammo. Now don't let him fool you when he holds the steel case to a magnet and that is attracted to a magnet. And no, neither a copper wash nor a copper jacket will "shield" the steel from being attraced to the magnet. |
