Was at a show yesterday and came across a deal for 3, Three hundred round galv spam cans of 7.62x54R. All that was marked on the cans is "7.62". The guy i got it from thought it was 308 when he bought it only to find out it wasn't so he sold it me pretty cheap. It a brass cased round. Copper jacketed. Stamped as follows.
Small five point star on top, "52" written on bottom with a number "3" at the 9 o'clock position and a number "10" at the 3 o'clock postion. Very clean ammo and by the way it shoots from the PLS I would say a light ball round. Any help? |

Either Russian (3) or Bulgarian (10) depending on which number is the factory code. |
| Without doing a whole lot of looking, with the star symbol in the headstamp, I'd say it was Czech mfg. But, I've never seen Czech ammo with that many symbols on the h/s. A pic would help, but I'd say it is Czech ammo. The 300 rd tin is an oddity as well. Hope this does not muddy up the waters more than what they are already! |

What you have is Bulgarian ammo.
It sounds like light ball, if it was heavy ball it would have a yellow tip. I have quite a bit of that ammo and it shoots pretty good. I really like that it is brass cased. You might get some case ruptures and you also need to look and make sure that the necks aren't cracked. I've had a few that had cracks running halfway down the case. |
