how bad is a tracer round on your gun?

I may be wrong, but I don't think it's harmful. Doesn't the phosphorous or whatever ignite as it leaves the muzzle and comes in contact with oxygen?

I know that U.S. 7.62x51 tracer does not ignite untill 10m out the muzzle, so I would say it does not effect the gun.

Id does use a different powder, that may be a little hot, but I have not heard of any problems.
