I have an SAR-1, and I have fired over 3000 rounds of Wolf and TCW "Effect" rounds.  These are all non-corrosive, correct?  I had the rifle in a foam case for a couple of weeks.  I looked in the bore while cleaning, and there is some sort of build up on the lands.  Could I have corroded the chrome, or is it just copper fouling?  Can I clean this up?  Also, how do I clean out the chamber?

1)  Don't store a rifle in a closed case, especially a dirty rifle.

2)  Ammo should be non-corrosive.

3)  It is proabally copper residue from the jackets corroding.  Clean the barrel with a .30 caliber phospor bronze brush and a decent solvent.

3000 rounds??  Clean the whole damn rifle and lube it properly while you are at it.

4) A few patches and solvent will swab out the chamber when you are following up on your 'brushed' bore.

CLP, Tetra or TW25B will work well.  I perfer TW25B products.

It sounds like it may just be a build up of copper from the jacket.  This is normal.  Clean the rifle normally and don't worry about it.  This is an AK and I would not loose sleep over jacket fouling.

I should add that foam plastic does not breathe, so it can trap moisture against the gun. If you really need to leave it in the case for an extended period, wrap the gun in some cloth first.

Thanks.  I sure wont be making that mistake again.  Best to avoid potential corrosion (well duh).
