Hello everyone,

Getting close to finishing my AMD 65 build and would like to know how to mount the side swivel on the thing.

I assume your talking about the sling swivel on the receiver? If so, it attaches thru a small slot cut in the receiver. A sheet metal band sticks thru this slot into the receiver and the little "wings" on it bend out to hold it in place. Here is a photo:

The sling swivel attaches by bending two metal tabs inside the reciever.

I seems like it would be fairly weak after bending back to demil, and re installing due to metal fatigue.

You would need to cut a slit in the reciever.

The template is here.

pookieweb.dyndns.org:61129/AK/docs/templates.htm

Looks like the server is down right now.

I've got a copy. Email me and I'll send you one.

OK So I'm looking at making a slot like on that template and putting this sling swivel in?

I cut the notch slightly small with a dremel cut off wheel and enlarged with a needle file.  I then took the sling tab and stuck the little tabs through the slot and bent them outward.

In order to hold them better I used one of the Bernzmatic Oxy/MAPP torches and a white braze rod and put a little braze on the tabs on the inside of the reciever, it holds very well.  I was hesitant about using a Wire feed welder because I was afraid of burn through, but I think one on low current may work too.

A 110 volt (Harbor Freight special!) wire welder works good with it set on low power...just spot each side with no burn through.  Holds real good.

Thats what I was thinking-spotwelder.

One of my parts kits still has that sling loop intact on the old receiver part and its just loose in there. I would think 2 spotwelds would be a good upgrade.

I used the templates from pookie and at the time no one sold the sling attachment so I made one out of a old romainain sling holder.

I was trying to bend them striat and one side broke off, but did make it easier to slide in.

To make the slot I marked it and then drilled a bunch of holes and then cleaned up with dremal.

I welded with a mig welder on low. I took the tab that was broken off and welded in to for extra support.
