What is the best MOA you can get from AK-47 and from what types of builds? Also what is the best MOA on a Romanian kit? Thanks

the best? 1 MOA. likley? about 4-6 from most things. the prob is the ammo, poor sights and poor barrels. you can only do so much with what is realistically a 30-30. you can expect minute of man to be about 300 yds. that means you can reliably hit a man sized target at 300 not that you can kill him. just hit somewhere on the target. |
Perhaps I should be more specific and candid about what I am asking. Trust me I understand the limitations of he weapon system itself and the necessity of good ammunition for accuracy. I have some one asking about accuracy for predator hunting applications. I guess the question should be is less than 2 MOA possible with a Romanian kit build? Or perhaps a better question is an AK with a 16 inch barrel (like those found on the Romanian kits) capable of less than 2 MOA or is that completely out of the question? If it is, I can correct sights and ammunition to make up for those weak points. Thanks for those helping me with this as I would test this personally but currently live under a shooting ban due to wildfires that some think may be the responsibility of those who shoot guns.

if you were lucky and got a good kit. if you could find a good scope mount. if you hand loaded ammo and if you knew exactly what you were doing as far as range finding then yea. 2 moa is not out of the question for the first couple rounds. but in the end for as much trouble as you would have to go thru i would get a Remington 700. |
It's not for me, I have an accurized M-14 as well as other firearms (like my AR-15) that get sub-MOAs. The question is can it be done. The person this build would be for already does handload (as do I) and would have no problem getting a decent scope. I'm looking for some one who has actually tested it and knows. Not saying you have not, but thus far everything sounds like "in theory" this could or could not work. I'm pretty sure it could and I do have excellent kits on hand. The question is can this caliber in a 16 inch barrel do less than 2 MOA. Thanks for everyone's help, I just would like to hear back from more if possible. Thanks.

Try this: Compare Federal Gold Medal Match 7.62x39mm factory ammo vs. Wolf. Shoot this out of a CZ Bolt action rifle with a good scope from a bench rest. See the difference? You are not likely to get good accuracy from your AK when you refuse to use good ammo. Crap ammo = crap accuracy. Any AK accuracy Q. MUST start with the answer to: "What ammo?" |

I'm not refusing to use good ammo. In fact I am asking what the potential is for this particular caliber in a 16 inch barrel using the best ammo (I reload match 223 and 308 for sniper courses with sub MOA results) and a decent scope. I would not be asking this if I did not currently have the restriction by the county (and all counties surrounding me) banning all shooting. My problem is not the physics/concepts behind it, but a place to test it. So to add to the question, can you obtain less than 2 MOA with match ammo in a 16 inch barrel?

if you want accuracy, I know the yugos with original barrels will shoot very good. It is hard to find one with a nice bore though. I have two with mild pitting, they both shoot much better than the average romanian, despite the pitted barrels. I haven't shot the yugo's from century (with new, USA barrels) so I can't comment there. |
