I built an underfolder a while back and took it out to test fire. It fired fine and cycled alright but it did not reset the firing pin. Is it night cycling back all the way?? Any ideas? Thank you, |

I hope you were wearing the proper reflective safety gear and helmet when night cycling. Firing pin reset? Not hacking on you dude, but are you sure you know what you are doing? Check to see if your piston or bolt/BC is binding anywhere or if your gasport might be plugged. I'm thinking you are trying to tell me that your hammer is not resetting. |
LOL Woops how did I mistype that? I cant exactly say I know everything I am doing because I never built one before not do I have a local menotr on the subject manner. I got all my info here and from various places that Arfcom pointed me to. Now that I think about it the hammer was not resetting. I know thats a big difference but it has been a while (life got in the way). Comparing it to my other AK the rails are about 1/10" wider on the home built but the bolt/BC seem to ride them smoothly. What I do notice is that it hangs up on the hammer more than the standard. Should I file the hammer down? Is there different (lighter) springs I can use? |

I'm no expert by NO means, but did you happen to use a NDS receiver and a G2 single hook trigger group? I did and had to make the mod they talked about on their site since I was experiencing occasional hammer follow. Just your problem sounds kinda familar. Here's the link: http://www.nodakspud.com/troubleshooting.htm Trace |
| Easiest way to see exactly where the hangup is will be to take the receiver cover off (unloaded with no mag, of course) and work the action while looking at the internals. Do it with and without holding the trigger. You will be able to see if your disconnector is working, if the bolt is riding the rails correctly and get a better feel for how the hammer is pushing up on the bolt. The hammer pushing up on the bolt is very common in both home builds and factory rifles. Is yours a factory receiver or home rolled? |
Putting a bevel on the hammer shelf will though. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e201/TxStorm/firecontrolfix-2.jpg |
If the hammer is the problem I have found a dab of grease rubbed on the back of the hammer the bolt runs over does the trick until the system is broke in. You can also polish/grind it with a Dremel. But why remove something that will ultimately be worked away by normal use and especially if a little grease will do the job? This comes from working on Garands and M-14s that actually interact in a similar manner and have had similar sticking problems.

Right, missed that point. I was looking at the beveled head of the hammer, not the lip. There are some nice schematics for that as well some where on this sight that give dimensions and angles in addition to pictures. Fortunately, I have not experienced the problem where the disconnector is not catching the hammer.

I was thinking that the bolt is not traveling back far enough. I notice that when I pull it back it will stay in the opened bolt position until I smack the side then it will go forward. I know the Romanian does the same but it is MUCH more sensitive. I do not know if that means anythinng valuable in this situation. I took the project on for self satisfaction that I COULD do somethingh http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a289/deftanker/TrunkGun.jpg |

What fire controll group are you using? Sounds like you have a Tapco G2 and did not install the sleave that comes with it. The sleave is required. I got hammer follow when I didn't install the sleave on my 1st G2 I installed. Also how are you retaining your trigger and hammer pins? I prefer "E" but have found on some builds I need to use 2 on each pin. |
