I am on my first build and just sandblasted my Romanian ak to prep for Duracoat.
Now I have found that my rear site is stuck ie the button thing is stuck shut and will slide up and down the leaf. I am sure its just some sand stuck in there.
My question is how the heck do you get the thing off? I want to take it apart and clean it. It looks like the leaf just slides into the trunnion, but that spring under it is STRONG. I can't get it out. Also I don't see a way of getting that button off anyway.
Can someone help out?

I have read before that you can just stand up the sight and smack the face of it with a rubber mallet and it will pop out. Don't know if I would try it or not.

There are a couple of different ways to remove the rear sight on an AK.  The one that I use is a small wrench that I modified (I have pics somewhere) that hooks under the front part of the sight and depressed the flat spring so that you can remove the sight.  The other is to use your drill press with a drill chucked in it to push the spring down and then you can easily remove the sight that way too.  I will post pics when I get home unless socandyman beats me to it!

No special tools needed.

Mount gun in padded vice. Using a two hands & flat tipped screw driver press straight down on the front portion of the rear sight. There is a groove in the sight that the tip of the screw driver fits into.

Sight will pop off.

To put back in, use the same screw driver. Press down on front portion of the leaf spring and push the sight in. I find I can get the sight most of the way in and then tap it the rest of the way in with a mallet.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
