Anyone had any experience with AK-Builder or Tapco flats? If I lay one atop the other over my DPH bending jig alignment pins the other holes in one flat don't line up with the other. I understand that all AK-Builder holes are not drilled to size but it seems that if hole placement is critical that the little pilot holes should be close to centered in the larger holes on the Tapco flat. Any ideas?

The holes on the Tapco flats are wrong.  That's whey they don't line up with each other.

Thanks for the info. I have three of the AK-Builder flats and one Tapco. The builder flats seem to be of a better quality. I have one bent up now for a Romy I am putting together. We'll see how it works.

The TAPCO flats will work, but the AK Builder flats are better IMHO.

+1

The Tapco flat I bought said "without" trunnion holes, but it came with the last two holes pre-drilled for the front trunnion(the holes nearest the mag opening).  These were the only holes that didn't line up on my flat.  Had to "egg" them open to make them fit.  The best thing about the Tapco flat is that it's a good flat on which to practice, and you don't feel so bad when you rip it apart so that you can build your kit on a really good flat(like the AK-Builder version).

I used Tapco flats on my first AK build. Romy kit. The forward trunnion holes needed egged slightly. Worst problem was the safety lever holes are a tad low. So when the safety lever is up, there's almost an 1/8" gap between it and the dust cover at one point. But the rifle does shoot and function fine.

I plan on using AKBuilder flats for all my future builds. I used their Polish UF flat and was VERY impressed! More work to finish than the Tapco flats. But when you're done, you have a really great reciever. It's worth the extra work to me.

+1, all the Tapco's have this quirk, but I have not (yet) run into one that does not shoot and function fine. Anyone given any thought to building up a weld on either the selector, or the dust cover to fill in this area?

All you need to do to get rid of that gap is buy one of the better flats.  Spend $10 plus shipping to get one of the "Economy Flats" and see first hand what the difference is.

+1 on the AKBuilder flat. The dimple on the Builder looks like the real thing, Tapco is just a dent.
