All the metal parts more or less match in color and the overall look I went for is "oppressive pre 1991 Hungary". I must rest now...

I am almost embarassed to admit it...but it was suggested in this forum. I used black gloss engine paint from Walmart over a parkerized receiver and the worn paint on the rest of the rifle. It matched the original paint very well! Before painting it I tested the paint by painting over parkerized finish and painted finish on receiver remnants removed from Romanian and Hungarian kits... Thank you, I really like the way it came out, thought it's not as beautifully finished as other kits folks build. Range report will come soon, but I tested it prior to finishing and it fires reliably. The US made unmarked muzzle brake had to be removed because it made the rifle slap me, possibly due to bullet touching it ... another forum member is conducting tests on it. I replaced it with a US marked one from COPEs since the range testing. |

OK, I need to report back on the range test. It works great and can hit a baby keg at 100 meters with iron sights. No failures with the appropriate eastern euro mag, shoots HP and FMJ without problem. My waffle US made mag made it jam...but then again it makes other AKs I fired jam. I can't believe they managed to make a mag that can cause an AK to fail...JUNK! On an unrelated topic, I have two waffle AK mags for sale, one black and one "coyote" color...barely used and pretty... |
