I bought a Romainian WASR 3 a few months ago. The rifle had a canted front sight, a receiver without mag well demples and some nasty wood stocks. I've been wanting to build a .223 rifle but the cost of the parts has kept me from it. I bought the WASR3 because it was cheaper than buying all the parts one by one,( I payed $340.00 for the rifle). I stripped the receiver of all parts and destroyed it. I then folded a new 5.45 flat from AK builder and rebuilt the rifle. The front sight is a Yugo post welded to the original 90 degree gas block. I cut the barrel down and permenently mounted the flash hider. The total length is right at 16 1/4. The rifle uses weiger mags. I cut out a bolt hold open slot in the safety that has worked very well. I shot about 600 rounds last week with no failures.

EXCELLENT job :) You cut up a piece of crap, and used the parts to build a GOOD rifle :) Nice work :)

VERY nice, man! It took some guts to rip apart the existing rifle and redo it.

I admire your work. The results are excellent. But, I would have sold the old receiver.

I would have liked to sell the old receiver also. The problem is that the serial number on the rifle was stamped on the front trunnion only. Once the trunnion was removed I had a unserialized receiver. Hard to transfer a receiver with no serial number.
