I always had trouble with the rear trunion. Trying to hold it perfectly upright for drilling out the old rivets was a pain. Even worse was trying to hold it tight as I punched out what was left of the rivets. I tried a vise but the trunion would slip with every hit from the hammer.

I'm a welder so one day at the shop I stayed late and built a jig to hold the trunion while I drill and punch out the rivets. This way I can clamp the trunion to the jig and clamp the jig down to my work bench and everything stays put.

I used a 4"x5"x3/8" plate with two 5/16" holes punched with an iron worker. I didn't have a piece of steel thick enough to mill it out so I used three pieces of flatbar and tig welded them together.

Here are a couple pics.
