Just wanted to share some build pics of my 2 latest builds.
The sight numbers are done in a white lacquer stick, it does lighten up the color of the finish some, but I'll work on that some more later.

I haven't had a chance to range test them, but hope to soon.

First is a Yugo UF built on a Vulcan receiver.
I have US made: receiver, FCG, Gas Piston & Muzzle break.
Finish is Aluma-Hyde II in Matt Black.  The wood is original, I just cleaned the comso off and used Tung Oil.  Still have some more coats to put on.  The sling came from CDNN Inc, only $4.49, I ordered a few.

Next is an AK Pistol done in Aluma-Hyde II Dark Park Grey, 8.5" barrel (Droog from Gunco.net did this), welded front site, matt black furniture (I cut the original down to fit), rear block from Cope's Distr & pistol grip from TheTic00.  I like the shorty mag, but my 75rd drum fits in it just fine too.  This was a receiver I bent myself from a Tapco flat.  I originally was going to rivet the reat block in, but broke off a drill bit inside when doing the holes.  So I just ended up welding the block in.

It's been fun and I hope to do a few more builds, definately another pistol as they're cool to tinker on.

Later,
Kyle

They look pretty....

Where'd you get the Pistol kit from?  How much did you pay for it?  Where'd you get the Yugo kit from?

What is a white laquer stick and where do you buy them?  I really need to do the numbers on my AKs since they are all black.

One last question lol.  Did you prefer building on a flat or a premade receiver?  I've built 3 guns on flats and haven't had any problems but think it would interesting to build on a premade receiver, save a couple hours of work at least.

Those slings are for SKS I believe.

1-It's a Romy 'G' kit from CSI (Centerfire Systems Inc)
2-$100 for the kit (a while ago), $85 to cut/thread the barrel & shorten the gas tube, $30 for the rear block, $24 for the pistol grip
3-CSI for $110 (a while ago)
4-Brownells, it's just a stick type paste you rub over the numbers, wipe off exces and let it dry
5-I prefer flats as I got mine for little $$$.  The 100% Vulcan receiver had to have mods done to it anyway.  Part of the fun for me is tinkering on the rails, receiver, etc...
6-I have several SKS's, but the sling works good for the AK as well.  I just didn't want to pass up $4.49.  I'm also going to work on some Albanian SKS's I have in the future.

Thanks GI_Brat

I think Cope's had AK slings for like $5 last time I looked, I think it was them I ordered a bunch.

I didn't realize that was a G kit, I've done 3 of them so far, but never thought of shortening them to a pistol.

Thats no fun the premade receiver needed mods. Flats are fun, but such a hassle when your building several AKs from them.

What'd you do for the inside of the receivers?  Paint or blue wise?  I normally blue the insides just to give it a good color and since paint wears off very easily inside.

It does look puuuurty though

Since I blasted all the metal with an aggressive media (Alum Oxide #70), I painted the inside of the receivers with the same paint as the outside.  My hope is that the paint has some good rough surface to grab onto.  I know the Aluma-Hyde II that I put on a couple 'months' ago is stronger now than it was a few 'weeks' after I applied it.  I have some future builds I'll paint and really let them cure for a loooooong time.  Before painting I wiped it all down with MEK (purchased from Lowes).

Later all,
Kyle
