I have a question regarding rivets. I started my first build about a week ago. I received my rivets yesterday. My question is when the front trunnion is slid into my receiver, holes lined up and rivet installed how far (into the trunnion) are these rivets supposed to stick out? It seems to me that there is an awful lot of (Shank) that need to be squeezed. Again this being my first build, maybe this is normal. I held off on crushing my rivets until I asked this question. The rivets that I got are for a Romanian fixed stock (the kit that I am building). I would assume that these are soft enough to totally crush them flat in the recesses in the trunnion? I am using a 1.0mm NoDac Spud NDS-3 receiver. I thought that I remember reading somewhere that the shank after being crushed, should be at least the diameter of the head? Thanks |

So long as you have a "standard" rivet kit you should be OK with the length of the rivets in the front trunion. The Tapco kits were the only ones I have seen that have length and diameter issues. The only rivet I trim is the rear trigger guard rivet, it is a bit too long and has a tendency to "toe-nail" if you are not careful. Having a Romy G fixed stock kit only means you have the correct ammount and style of rivets for your build. |

Rockhound66 Thanks for the info. I will go ahead tonight and “squeeze” them. The set of rivets that I got (From gun broker) said for the fixed stock Romanian. When I got them there were two small rivets for the front trunnion that were swell necks. These go in the bottom two holes of the trunnion. The parts kit that I got does not have those two holes countersunk for these rivets. I ever so slightly counter sunk them and the rivets now fit fine. Now that these are countersunk for the trunnion (The rear trunnion is countersunk as well) do I need to dimple or counter sink the receiver? Thanks again for the help. |
| I found that if you slightly dimple the receiver rear trunion holes, you get a better rivet head on the crush side. I just take a short swell neck and give it a light rap in the hole with the trunion installed and it forms the dimple in the receiver to the trunion. |
