I hosted an AK build party today at my place just north of Pittsburgh.

Had a couple cancellations so rvn6869 aka George got all the attention and had all the fun.

George is a disabled vietnem vet that has caught the AK building bug. He recently got out of the hospital and has spent the last several weeks building the receiver for his Polish underfolder from an 80% Blank that was pre-bent.

For his first build he did a great job! Here is the happiest face I ever saw on a vet....It really was Christmas in July!!!

Here is George's rifle after being built....we stripped the Dan's unit of the original black "ink" finish and parked the whole deal....tuned out super nice....a real collector piece and a great shooter.

I had just finish a Polish underfolder last weekend...here they are together....mine needs the UF installed yet.

Eight hours of the most fun a guy can have and it was worth every minute to see that grin on this 'ol vets face when he put the final pieces together....and yes it was a miracle....the top cover went on first time with no trimming needed. George was like a kid in a candy stroe.

We're real happy for ya...and hope you enjoy your "new" rifle.

I haven't been on the site much lately, and missed the info on your build party.  Let us know if you decide to have another one!  I'm in NE PA.

Triumph955i...we shot blasted the old finish off and then cleaned everything real good with degreaser, boiled it in TSP then into an acid bath, quick hot water rinse and into the Zinc Phosphate park for about 15 minutes.

You could see the spot welds on the receiver....must be cause it's a different metal....I wasn't real happy with it but the more I got to lookin at the whole rifle....I really liked how it looked.

George, I knew it was gonna run a little tight....cause the rails were set a touch high. I filed a slight ramp on the front so the bolt carrier would ride up on it....It will settle in nice for you though.

Enjoy your rifle...much better you shooting it then some Viet Cong.
