I was originally planning a Polish underfolder kit for a build party next month. Then I saw a number of comments about how they're a little complicated to build from a flat for a first build. Since I'd really like to start from a flat rather than a finished receiver (I bake my own bread too. It's a sickness) I'll probably switch to a cheap WASR kit, so that I'm out less money if I screw something up. But, if I want a folder, are sidefolders easy? I was thinking of a Romy kit, the Galil-looking sidefolder from Cope's, on a Tapco flat. Would this work easily? |

Hey Centrarchidae, How about building a Romy sidefolder kit? It uses the standard Tapco flat with the rear tang holes. The sidefolder stock bolts in just like a fixed stock does. This also gives you the opportunity to install a fixed stock down the road if you like. It's no harder than a regular fixed stock build. I'll be up there that morning and will bring a couple of builds for people to look at. Later, Kyle |

You can use the Bulgarian side folder flat from AK-Builder with either an ORF Bulgarian side folder kit : rapidfire.targetweb.net/cgi-bin/store/agora.cgi/agora.cgi?cart_id=9378491.26067*jw20Y3&p_id=02094&xm=on&ppinc=big Or buy a Russian side folder stock assy from K-Var: www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?productid=16694&cat=251&page=1 Or build the Rommy sidefolder from Centerfire Systems:www.centerfiresystems.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=445 The Rommy and East German side folders screw onto the standard stock tang. Now you can even do a Polish Tantal sidefolder, with a thumb safety on the left side of the receiver, with the Tantal flat from AK-Builder and kit from DPH: dpharms.com/grade-2-polish-tantal-ak-kits-p-117.html For a Polish Underfolder, get the Polish Underfolder Flat from AK-Builder: www.ak-builder.com/ak/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=64 And Polish Underfolder Kit from Copes $244.99: www.copesdist.com/ak47.htm or CFS $239.97: www.centerfiresystems.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=68 The front and rear trunnion holes are already in the flat. The only "bitch" will be assy the underfolder stock. No biggee if you have some patience, or give me a six pack of Heineken to do it for you Don't forget your 922 Compliance Parts. If you are stuck on doing a Yugo underfolder with the RPK type trunnion, you can get the prebent blank, but nothing else is cut. You need to drill/mill all the pins, rivets, mag well slot, trigger slot, pistol grip stud slot, etc....it will take more than a day. But, if you want to do it, we'll do our best to get you pointed in the right direction. Even if you have to come up here another day to finish or one of the other local build parties. If you are building anything other than a standard, fixed stock rifle. I would encourage you to get the appropriate pre-cut blank from AK-Builder. It will save you blood, sweat and tears, especially on your first build. Spend the $45 vs the $13 TapCo flat. |

Monkey Man, Ruseller has a few AK74M stock assy en route to his German contact., This should eliminate clearing Russian customs and knock 2 mos off the shipping time. So, if you don't mind ordering and waiting 6-8 weeks for your stock assy to arrive, order from him for around $200. If you need immediate gratification, you can get a set from Ted Marshall, Tantal or RusMilitary for $350-450. |

Thanks for the tips, and especially for cluing me in about the AK-Builder flats. I'm going to do the Polish underfolder after all. It's Polish, and so was great-grandpa Centrarchidae. It's a roots thing.hen Heineken, you said, for walking me through the stock assembly? |

"Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll spend that day drinking beer on a boat." hough, Also, what do I need to do to prep it for the park tank? Is clean/dry good enough or do I need to take the old parkerizing off entirely? |
