OK, I was running along smoothly with my latest build when all of a sudden I came to a snag.  I attached a Ewbanks receiver onto, what I had thought was a Romanian AK.  When it came time to fitting the bolt carrier/bolt, the thing would not seat all the way...so I thought it must have been the rails being not level or set too low.  So I eyeballed it and things seemed level enough.  So I took the bolt out and just tried installing the carrier, when I realized that the carrier front (where the piston attaches) snags inside the FSB.  So I thought the carrier was bad, so I tried it out on one of my Romanian "G" build...fit like a charm.  Anyways, all I can describe about the kit is that it was built in 1970 and has a triangle with an upwards-pointing arrow.  Do I have the correct bolt carrier for this AK, or were there different carriers for different AKs?  Sorry if this question is dumb, I'm just stumped at the moment.

Did you replace the piston for compliance reasons? If so you have have pinned it on to tight, they should be slightly loose, if there too tight it can bind up inside either the gas tube or the gas block which in turn will not allow the carrier to seat. McM

Actually, the kit was purchased off a member and was pieced together.  No numbers match on the thing.  Let me take a picture and post it.

OK, this is the kit:

This is the only marking on it...triangle with upwards-pointing arrow:

This is as far as the carrier will go:

And this is where it's snagging:

do you have another carrier to try out?

hard to tell from here but is the carrier hitting/binding on the left side of the trunnion?

do you have enough clearance @ the extractor? i had to file mine down abit on the global recivers ive used

I've tried 4 different carriers from other builds...I tried the snagging carrier in the other rifles and it works fine.  The extractor was grounded to allow the bolt to pass by it smoothly and the carrier is binding in the FSB, not the trunion.

anyway to file or open up the rear sight block? or take some off the carrier?

i dident catch the part of you trying other carriers,....but maybe the sight block is for a 5.45? or 5.56? i dident think that those would fit onto a 7.62 barrel.

maybe a bulgy or polish rear sight block that  just wont work with a romy trunnion?

Yeah, it's got my mind boggled...thanks for the input anyways.

Might want to check this:

Is the barrel a 5.45x39 or 5.56x45

From the last picture, it looks like a 7.62 bolt carrier going into a 5.45 or 5.56 rear sight base.

Yeah, that's what other folks have been mentioning to me.  I was assuming that it was a 7,62x39, since that's what was told to me.  Guess I'll hold off on this build until I can determine the caliber of this kit.

the kit is 762 rommy

someone got alittle happy pressing out the pin
and bent /canted the rear site base

you need to replace the rear site base and it will go together fine

If the FSB isnt bent, then the receiver is warped.  Can you post a picture looking from the top of the rear trunnion down the length of the gun?
