Hello folks,
An acquaintance has a “kit” described as a Bulgarian, and he asked what I knew about it.
Which isn’t all that much.  It’s a 7.62 version and quite frankly very nice, probably new.
I know that generally speaking the Bulgarians are considered top notch, but I would like to be able to identify it more for him.
Can anyone give me a rundown on the models, and how to identify them to determine what this is?
Thanks in advance.

Could you describe the parts set your friend has?  Did you see it in person?

Look for markings on the barrel trunnion.  What type of furniture?

Usually blonde or have yellowish bottle blonde...oh, the kit.

"10" in a double circle to the L of the serial #, left side trunnion

Well yeah, I saw it but... I called and asked for info.

Interesting response, It was repeated that it was a Bulgarian kit.
The barrel is not attached to any trunion, and the trunion in the kit has an oval shield with an 11 in it, which according to the link that  OODA_LOOP provided is the old Polish Radom factory.
No apparent barrel markings just grind marks where the evil features used to be.
Either not Bulgarian, or perhaps it wa a milled piece originally and the trunion is added?
I know that the laminated wood was added so no real help there.
A mystery that I do not have sufficient knowledge to solve.
Thanks folks.

can you get a closeup pic of the finish on the barrel ?

Socandyman, probably I'll try to round up a camera.
But I can tell you this now, the finish is as black a coating as I've ever seen. New, semi -flat and BLACK.

Is there something that I should focus on in inspecting the barrels, either looking for marks, proofmarks, or shapes?

BTW: BOCEFUS has kits described as like new matching FEG SA85's, and excellent matching Romanian's.
His reputation for honesty makes these sound like pretty desireable offerings.

It sounds like Flat Engine Paint to me!

Bulgaria - Arsenal has never built a stamped 7.62x39 - only milled. They are supposed to be in the works with a stamped commercial AKM which will be a first for them. The polish trunion in your kit was added to a milled kit. There have been three different Bulgarian parts kit available in quantity that I'm aware of:

KVAR sold new, never assembled AK-47 parts kits for milled receivers. The barrel is undrilled & ungrooved for barrel pin and the gas block, rear sight base and front sight were delivered loose.

Bulgarian type III military demills were brought in country in quantity. They were in VG but not new shape. Both pinned and threaded receiver types were brought in and the receiver stub was still attached to the barrel. The military furnitue is fairly rough brown-reddish stained hardwood of some type.

There was a lot of "Demilled" SA93 kits made from a shipment of SA93s that were stopped by customs. The parts were disassembled off the receivers - no stubs. The kits included all parts including the wood thumbhole stock and fatboy handguards. The SA93 has an unthreaded barrel and no bayo lug or cleaning rod hole.

If your kit is from Arsenal of Bulgaria, it most likely is one of the above.
