Received my new side folder stock today with the trunion and all the other installation goodies. Problem is, the kit only came with instruction on drilling the necessary receiver holes and openings. It did not include instructions on how to assemble the rear catch and spring and the front catch and spring. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

| Once the rear trunnion is riveted in place from the top insert the spring, I use a pair of long needle nose pliers to squeeze the spring, insert it and slowly with a small screw driver walk the ends of the spring off the pliers so that the spring expands inside of the trunnion. once its in insert the lock all the way in. Now take a screw driver and press the spring back to where the end of the spring clears the little hole in the lock and insert the tiny dowl rod into the hole and release the spring, make sure the spring rides in the grooves on that tiny dowl (thats what holds it from comming out). where did you order from? |
| Thanks for the input. I think I have an idea on how to do the rear spring and I will be prepared to lock myself in a rubber room during assembly since it must be a real bitch. As far as the front catch and spring, I still can't visualize how it goes together. Any graphic input will be appreciated. |

ok you guys are being allot of help I haven't got to deep in my 3 kits yet they got the Russian rear folder and trunnion can you answer me this Will the diagram that is floating around of the rear trunnion work for the Russian folder as well? there looks to be a lot of dremel time involved waiting till I get a few more builds done to try them out |
i think the only diffrence in the russian AK-100 poly folding stock trunnion,.. and the bulgy AK-74 skel. folding stock is the pin that keep the butstocks on the trunnion,..the bulgy looks thinner in some spots,.and the russian is about the same thickness except for one area. "there looks to be a lot of dremel time involved waiting till I get a few more builds done to try them out" this was the first kit i completed,.. you can do it,. just go slow yeah you have to get down right silly with the dremel for the rear,...but its easy enough,...like i said before,.. just go slow,. i would suggest you get a 5 pack of the fiber re-enforced cut off wheels and a good set of small files in flat, semi-round, round, triangle, and square (front latch hole). also read up on the "tape trick" and maybe practice on a bit of scrap laying around.,..i did it the hard way,.. and thank god it doesnt show ![]() once i got my reciver i started trimming and fitting the rear trunnion,..id take a little off,..see how it fit,..take more off see how it fit,..etc...etc... i got lucky with mine after the front trunnion and barrel was installed,..and all the cutting trimming fitting & fileing i did for the rear trunnion,..i did not have to move the placement of the rear trunnion (remember the dust cover's placement is determined after the barrel and rear sight is installed and properly headspaced & pinned) DO NOT RIVET THE REAR TRUNNION IN PLACE UNTILL EVERYTHING ELSE IS DONE i build on global 1.0mm recivers,..if you use a reciver that is a bit longer than normal,. you may want to do everything for the rear trunnion last. |

Cruzie, Is the reason you wait to install the rear trunion is that it allows you to determine the correct measurement between the rear sight dust cover groove and the rear trunion latch? If so, how do you get this measurement without cutting the rear holes to allow the trunion to be installed? Thanks again for all your help. Woodsman |

thanks cruzie I've got a AMD63 100% done and as soon as I have time my 74 fixed stock will be done all i have left is rivet it together and reinstall the barrel. its not the Poly folding stock its a skel. stock I was just told it was russian has rolled over edges i'll also be using gobal 1.0mm I have a couple in 5.45 I have tons of the cut off wheels and a set of needle files guess i just need to look it over good and start cutting |
yes,..the rear sight block is what the dust cover gets attached to along with the rear trunnion,..so if your rear trunnion is to far back,or forward,...the dust cover will not fit right,..like i said eariler,. i got very lucky with my rear trunnion,..but i would not recomend for anyone to do it the way i did. i would hate to see you do all that work only to have to redo the rear trunnion,..and with the rear trunnion for that folder the way it is,..you would have a hard time filling in all the holes for the rivets and folding hardware there is a set measurement somewhere,.. but you have to remamber that there are always diffrences in every ak,. for instance what mine would measure may or may not work with your build. the steps i go through when i will do my future buils are,.. -install sel.stop/trigger guard -install front trunnion (use mag to ensure a good mag lock up/front trunnion placement) -press in barrel -headspace -install barrel pin -recheck headspace -install rear trunnion(use dust cover to fix final position) -install pg., stocks, fcg. and anything else you dont have to drill any holes to get the rear folding trunnion in place,..just trim the end of the reciver so it will fit/slide in.(rear trunnion only,.none of the other folding hardware attached to it,..yet)
hmmm can you post a picture of your skel.stock,.. i want to see how it is diffrent from the folding bulgy one i have. those files are going to get a work out for sure,.. just take it slow on the cutting/trimming good luck,. and post picture when your done! |
