Just got my first AK kit in.  It's one of the $89 Rommies and it's still got a lot of nasty cosmoline on it.  What would be the best stuff to remove this?  How about the wood?  Is there going to be a lot of cosmoline soaked into it?  If so, how do I remove it?

Thanks!

Brake cleaner works as well as good 'ol carb cleaner.  I just wipe most of the surface crud off then spray and wipe some more.  I wouldn't worry about the wood, the shelac that was on my 3 romy's was so thick I think it was near bullet proof.

1.  Take stock off if it is wood.

2. Place in PVC tube and soak in Birchwook Casey gun cleaner and degreaser over night

3. Pour contents into jar and wipe down.  (Use nitrile gloves and not silicone)

4.  Run patches through bore and disassemble for wipe down.

5.  Put back together and put stock back on.
