OK, i searched and didnt find a clear answer.  Here's my question:  How many US parts need to be in an AK?  Would this be ok:  1)Pistol Grip    234)Hammer trigger sear    5) upperand lower handguards  6) Replace original flash hider with US flashhider and 7) US made 80% receiver blank

Is that enough?

Here is a link to the FAQ's. Click on the 922r COMPLIANCE PARTS link. You need 6 on a stamped reciver with a brake, 5 on a milled receiver with a brake.

As I understand it, the rear trunion counts as part of the butstock so it need not be counted towards the 10.  Correct?

the tang isnt a counted part
if it counted as part of the butt then you couldnt use a us butt as a part
kinda like the front hg's

Just remember, it's NOT the number of US parts that count. It's the maximum number of 10 imported parts.

For me, the domestic parts that I use are:
receiver, pistol grip, trigger, disconnector, hammer, and either a gas piston or a slant brake.

Sorry, but what about the rear trunion on an underfolder?  I take it as this trunion is also considered part of the stock and the rear trunion is still not considered as one of the 10 foreign parts.

In the ATF definition, trunion refers to the barrel trunion. Most suppliers refer to the rear trunion as a rear block. I don't know which is correct, anybody else?

trunnion by definition is a part that holds the barrel into the rec
unless you consider your buttstock a barrel its not a trunnion

the rear trunnnion is actually a rear block or rear tang and is not a counted part
otherwise you would need 2 extra parts for a stamped gun not just 1

btw i also call the rear block a trunnion but it isnt

That thing in the rear of the receiver is definately a TANG.  an noun. a metal protrustion from the end of a tool.  A wooden stock attaches to that thar TANG thingy.   That is if you can believe Webster's dictionary.

OK, cool then.  I only need 6 parts.  So all I need is a 1)PG, 1)upper/lower HG, 3)HTS, and
1)receiver.

Then 10 parts remain foriegn
