| Being my first AK I bought a Romy High Cap. It had trigger slap so I took out the disconnector and polish the back tab off. Now I'm having a hell of a time putting the peices back together. I can put everything in but can't get the Shepards Hook under the two pins to keep them from sliding out. What do I do? |

How are you installing it? I always move the hook end under the cross-brace, it then clips over the front pin. The leg of the retainer then goes over the top of the rear pin. I'm not sure if this is the actual way it goes but it does the trick. Some are using e-clips bought from hardware/auto supply stores. I like using the retainer 'cause thats whats supposed to be there and it's not that hard to install. Question: where did you find the instructions on how to prevent trigger slap? None of mine seem to do it but I'm just curious. |

it is one of the hardest things to do. honestly. here is my proceedure. let us call the two ends of the shepards .. hook and tail first, cock the hammer. with the hook tip up, slip the tail under the rear pin (in the slot) and push it rearwards, untill the hook will clear the center support, and fall onto the front pin. move the hook end into it's slot (the tip of the hook will still be up) now is the tricky part, you must twist the hook 180 degrees, so the hook loops around the pin. you will need two flathead screwdrivers, one thin and one medium. with one screwdriver, twist the hook downwards, and with the other, work on the tail to help it all twist. now, hold the hook down on the inside of the hammer spring, and witht he other screwdriver push the retainer rearward. it helps to hold the hook flat against the receiver and hold the hammer spring away from the hook, all with one screwdriver, if I was a moderator, I could post step by step pictures... |

I have metric e-clips for sale. $2 for 10, and they are a lot easier to install than the shepards hook. e-mail me for paypal or mailing address info. www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=123&t=297076 |
Those e clips do work well and are cheap & easy. Many still prefer the shepards hook and I have talked to a lot of people who dont trust E clips not really sure why though. Just a heads up Im gonna be getting some of the polytec designed shepards hooks soon. |
The Polytec (L shaped) design works great. Piece of cake to get in and out. |
Yea, I make my own from that useless spring that comes with the FA parts because I could never figure out how to install that shepherd's hook thingbobber. The Other Chris |
