I've read alot about builders setting rivets with modified bolt cutters. Can anyone post pics of how the bolt cutters are modified and explain how they are used to set the rivets?

socandyman has a post on here that gives great instructions on how to do the conversion of the 36 inch harbor freight bolt cutters, a dremel tool, angle grinder, and a micrometer is all you need, forgot about a bench vise too.  hell, if there is an ak builder on here that doesn't have a bench vise they need to go yard sale-ing!!

chris

ps, if you can't find the link, im me and i will take measurements of mine and email them to you.

FYI, I used socandyman's measurements on the 24" HF cutters and they work fine.  There is still enough room left to use a 1/4" piece of steel flat with a dimple for the rivot head.

I originally tried to form a dimple in the bolt cutter jaw for the rivot head, but all of my dremel bits just powdered themselves against the hardened steel.
