I ordered a Global receiver and was wondering about the hardness factor. The other receivers are not completely hardened, just around the trigger and hammer holes.  I was wondering if the front of the receiver could be annealed to a softer condition which would allow the rivets to seat normally.  By using a heat sink, the rest of the receiver would maintain it's original hardness.  The rear of the receiver could also be annealed in the same manner.  What I don't know is if the receiver would warp.  It wouldn't take much heat to anneal the thin metal of the receiver.  So, would this be a viable solution.  It would also allow the holes for the rivets to be drilled alot easier.  So...would any of you metal masters out there like to ponder this?

you will most likely warp it if you try
and the rec isnt so hard you cant countersink the holes
i did on mine
your thinking about it to much

Thanks for the reply.  Sometimes we tend to make a simple thing complicated.  Wasn't too concerned about it. Read somewhere that someone was worried about the front of the receiver developing stress cracks because of the hardened receiver.  Sounds plausible but then again sometimes I listen to Coast to Coast for laughs.  Hope something isn't rubbing off.

I think that is unlikely.  I've got a number of AK's built on their receiver, some with lots of rounds through them and no issue.
