The rule states that you will never have more than 10 foreign parts from the list.

The 16 countable parts in a AK with a muzzle device.

(1) Receiver
(2) Barrel
(3) Trunnion
(4) Muzzle attachments
(5) Bolt
(6) Bolt carrier
(7) Gas piston
(8) Trigger
(9) Hammer
(10) Disconnecter
(11) Buttstock
(12) Pistol grip
(13) Forearm handguards
(14) Magazine body
(15) Follower
(16) Floorplate

so i need 5 for a rifle without  a muzzle device? i have 5 now (fcg, pistol grip, handguards). i was at the range and someone told me i needed 6 parts. i packed up and left early. i don't want to have a legal problem.

If you do not have a muzzle device then in essence you only need 5 US parts.  I still like to use the 10 foreign parts rule since that is the way it is stated in 922(r).  You state that you have fcg, pistol grip and handguards for US parts so you should be all set since that gives you 5 US parts which only leaves 10 foreign parts in your rifle.

ooccar, is your receiver US made? Did you count that? If so, it looks like you have 6 US parts.
Also put a US made mag floor plate and followering in your mags.  That way you will have plenty of US parts.

I kind of figured that he was dealing with a WASR-10 or similar.  But yes, if he has a US made receiver he has 6 parts (fcg=3, pistol grip=1, handguards=1, receiver=1).  Whether or not he has a US made receiver he is legal.

dale, the suspense is killing me........occaar didn't say what type of rifle.  If it is a WASR-10 or something else and he bought it legally, then it should have the right parts count  anyhow. His range lawyer should have been more detailed with his information.

He never said what kind of rifle it is.

On the subject of range lawyers...  don't get me started.  I brought a few of my AKs to the range one time and a cop there said "Is it legal for YOU to own machine guns?"  Jeezus H Krist!  He is a cop of some 15 years on the force and he thinks ALL AKs are machine guns?  So if the cops don't even know then how much should we trust the range lawyers?

Well hush my mouth.......did you buy it legally? Did you modify it?  If yes and no,  then you are legal.
