I know the new kits from DPH come with the bits of receiver still riveted to the front trunnion, the rear tang and the trigger guard.  My question is this.....How do I go about getting the old receiver and the new rivets out without damaging the trunnion and tang?   And what tools work best for doing this?

take an angle grinder and grind the rivet heads off, that is how they do most of the kits I've received.

EDIT: the kits I got from DPH didnt have stubs on the trunnions, just the trigger guard, is this something new?

I dunno....I'm waiting on my kit to show up.  From the pictures I've seen posted it looked like the stubs were on the front trunnion and rear tang.  We shall see...I just wanted to know just in case.

I got a kit from DPH recently, it has the ends of the receiver left on, I believe that's the way they are coming now.  The rivets in those things are evil!  I'm still trying to get the ones out of the rear trunion, I cut the tops of the rivets off with a Dremel tool, and I have drilled and drilled, both sides are off but I still can't get the full width rivets out!  I spent about 1 1/2 hours this afternoon just getting the rivets out of the trigger guard.

I have yet to try to get the rivets out of the front trunion, they should be easier....I hope!

I feel your pain on the rivets, I resorted to the drill press on the trigger guard, and I'm still wrangling with one of the rear tang rivets(already ate one of my drill bits)  I thought romy kits were supposed to be easy due to slightly looser tolerances.  hell pressing the barrel and barrel pin out of my AMD65 kit was easier than these things.

When drilling the rivets out do you start with a smaller bit and work your way up to the size of the hole?

I do it that way.

If you have a compressor and air hammer, if you drill through the rivet with a smaller bit, then use a rivet cutting chisel on the air hammer it will pop the head right off the "hollow" rivet and then one tap with a punch and the rivet pops out.
