the build is coming along nicely, I'm using one of the brand new Bulgy AK74S kits and an OOW AK74 reciever. both trunnions and trigger guard are rivetted  and the barrel is back in. I'm trying all the parts in and the bolt carrier seems to be hanging up on the hammer when I cycle the action. If I pull the bolt all the way back and let it go it will slam home into battery, but if I'm not all the way back and let it go it will hang on the hammer. this problem is worse when I have the dust cover on.
anyone have any suggestions? is this normal and will wear in after a few mags? I did a Polish  AK47 UF on an OOW reciever last year and don't remember any problems like this.

This is why you never ride the carrier home! All of mine do this. Pull it ALLLLLL the way back and let'er rip.

are you sure it is hanging on the hammer?  I just worked an OOW and the upper rails were a little wide..

if the problem increases with putting the action cover on..  that might me pressing on the upper rails and forcing them closer to the bolt carrier...

just a thought....

Everything is a bit tight now that you have just got her all together, give it a generous ammount of oil on the bolt carrier and the rails, and then work the action for a bit.  That will loosen up the action,  she will run after that.

I have the same issues on my OOW. builds and my new GT 1mm builds, it is something that will work out in time IMO.

ive done half dozen on oow's and the top rails on the 74s are to tight
they need alittle file work to run well
you can just shoot it out but its gonna be alot of ammo

If you are using the auto trigger group, with the auto parts removed, the hammer sits up high.  I replace them with regular semi auto parts, and don't have the problem.  There is a noticeable difference between the hooks on the two triggers.

this sounds like it might be the answer to the problem. I think I'll try swapping out the trigger and hammer with the semi auto set in my Polish UF and see how it goes. also the rails may be being squeezed in when I put the dust cover on.
thanks guys 2 very good suggestions as to possible causes of my problems.

If the cover puts enough force on the receiver to push the rails in, don't shoot that rifle.  The receiver is much stronger than the cover, and if the receiver bends that easy it isn't safe to shoot.

OK it was the hammer and trigger, I substituted in a TAPCO semi-auto set and it works fine.

thanks for all the replies, Alex
