I'm not sure of the shear strength of the screws, but they were not the cheap chrome plated or mild steel varity. They're the black oxide type, I'm sure they will hold just fine. Edited to add: Ok, I found this info on the web Screw Strength Data. The screws I used are mfgr marked YD and YFS with a strength of 10.9, pretty high up on the scale. Guess you could use the formula to figure out the exact strength, but I'm satisfied as is. Hope this helps out. Quib |
www.mscdirect.com You need these guys then if the local hardware store is 30miles. I learned about them on referral from Campy. |

I have a laser cut flat that you fold to the correct shape, then weld the fold lines to hold that shape. It also has a center support tube and 2 screws to hold it, and a complete set of hardened screws to bolt everything together, along with the lower rails. If you are interested, I'll sell it for $50.00, shipping included. Buy the same kit from the manufacturer and it will cost $50.00 + shipping. This is a new kit, extra, I have 10 sets. Uh, I build a lot of AK's. OJF |
It's so simple to go to a store like ACE Hardware and pick up the necessary taps, bits and screws, that to put together a kit to sell to builders seems useless. Plus the trunnion hole diameters do differ from kit to kit. On my Bulgie kit the forward trunnion holes were slightly larger than the others so I had to use a mix of 5 and 6mm screws. Some like metric, some like SAE, some use sizes up to 1/4" dia. There's so many hardware options on a screw build you could end up putting together a unlimited combination of kits! Best bet is to measure your trunnion rivet holes, match that measurement to a drill/tap chart to find your tap size. Then shop around on line or around town for the proper screws, bits and taps. |
