I had problems trying to drill the rivets out so I decided to just remove the  barrel and punch the rivets out. I tried to remove the barrel pin with a punch, no go, so I tried a press and bent a grade 8 bolt that I was using as a push pin. What am I doing wrong? sorry about all the dumb questions.

thanks

How long was the bolt you were using.

You need to start with something short, so it wont flex, then switch to something longer after you get the pin moving.

I use a punch and hammer to get the pin moving then switch to the press. and dont be shy that pin is good and set, it just takes 1 real good whack to get it moving.

The bolt was short I had alot of pressure on it I thought I was going to bend something. Does the pin only go one way or can it be pushed out from either side? I tried both sides.

I just thought I must be doing something wrong. I had a good punch with a 3lbs hammer. still couldn't even move it a little. I guess I'll try the punch again. I'll let you know how it works.

thanks

If you have a piece of steel to rest the trunion on you can drill a hole in the steel  and position the pin over the hole and then  clamp it down solidly.sometimes it takes quite a shock to get the pin started so any give in the rest you use wont help.I havent had to drill one yet after a dozen or so but I had one snap when it let go,I thought I had broken the punch. All of the pins I have removed were pushed out from the left to the right.I hope this helps
