Well, so far I'v bent 7 flats with a specially made jig, and they all came out looking factory made. All the holes line up perfectly. I'v put FCG in each to ensure the lineup is perfect. My only problem is bending the upper rails. I am most definitely not talented enough to bend them by hand and eyesight alignment. Does anyone have a lead on someone making a jig for upper rails?
Sorry, I don't have a digital camera to show photo's of the flats. I spent too much for the flat bending jig. But all corners are sharp, and not a sign of any deformation around the mag well. I think I'm going to buy a hundred flats before the price shoots up.

Well, so how do you bend the upper rails? Do you use a jig? More info please.

How are you guys bending the blanks? did you buy someones jig or fabricate your own?  I was working on a jig to press my own I would like to hear how others are doing it.

Edited because I hit the damn enter key in the middle of a sentance.

i only ever bent one of my own, home made receivers.

actually, i built several...but, only one was functional.

i left the top rails long...very long on stock, then bent them first and trimmed them back to their correct configuration.

the last bends were the bottom two.

brake bending sucks...getting the bend allowance right took a few attempts.

Easier to bend top rails first. But can be done after a main bend.
1. mark a bend line for the top rails on the blank. I can give you dimensions for the Vulcan/TAPCO flat to mark top rail bend lines when i get back home.
2. Get two steel plates about a foot long and 1 1/4 X 1(so it will fit tight between receiver walls (1 1/4) and will not reach receiver dimples (i think it is avout 1").
3. clamped them both together, making sure they are aligned with each other and the bend line. Check again after you clamp them!!!
4. Big Plastic Hammer. you will probably destroy a hamemr butit wont scratch metal. Final touches can be made with small umm..how do you call it? ballpoint hammer?

Works like a charm.
how about plans for the bending jig? Or some tips?

i made a spacer with holes for mag dimple then clamped it in a metal brake bend top rail do other side , then use template to hold and bend lower bend, have 2 working aks from flats also built an rpk and 2 more receivers from sheet metal. gough1
