Campybob (from the thread on building an AK from ekg98) indicated that you could use oversized (long) rivets to blind rivet the receiver to the trunion. I'd like to try that on my first AK build. But, I have no idea what the factory length is of the rivets. I can measure from the side of the trunion to the o.d. of the barrel, calculate what the accepted length of the shaft should be to create the rivet head (assuming that the rivet head stops at the barrel), and come up with a length that is pretty close. But, I'd love to know what the factory length of the rivets is so I can check my SWAG. Could someone perhaps post it somewhere? Thanks |

kono, you will need severeal of the rivets that are in the complete rivet set, available from k-var. i suggest you order a complete set. you will only "not use" 4 rivets from the set and can measure the factory length from those. then, start out with a rivet that is .030-.040" longer than those to rivet against the bbl. as some have suggested, drillimg a SMALL countersink into the stem may help to aid head formation. the oem commie rivets measure .250-.260 long FROM THE BASE OF THE COUNTERSINK and about .320" FROM THE EDGE OF THE HEAD (top of countersink area of the rivet. |
