I just about wrapped up my 7.62 Saiga conversion. I'm gonna whip up a writeup this weekend and post it. Soon. Overall it was really easy. I pressed on the gas block and dropped in a RSA trigger. How is anyone handling the trigger guard? Has anyone used screws? take care, Tec |
| Tec, I cut off the extra hole that was used to attach the buttstock and used a button head screw and nut through the back rivet hole in the triggerguard and the rivet hole in the reciever behind the trigger opening to attach it. I stuck the other end in the gap between the reciever and the mag catch housing. I had to rebend it a bit to make it fit right but it's a peachy fix. The screw and nut are the only thing holding it on but it's snug and looks right. If I remember you didn't punch that particular rivet out of your reciever but filed it down flat. Punch it out and screw the triggerguard on. I put the screw head inside the reciever with the nut on the outside. The screw head does not interfere with the trigger and the pistol grip hides the nut. |

no. 6-32 button head screws are perfect for installing the trigger guard. iirc, 3/8" long screws are the correct length, if you make tapped rails (3/32" thick x 1/8" wide). when installing the rear screw, the hex hut must be narrowed to clear the trigger legs. this is one area where riveting isn't that hard to do. a steel block with a couple of ball milled divots supports the assembled trigger guard from under near. simply head the rivet from the inside using a counterbored piece of cold rolled steel rod. note, to get the rivet tool up against the sidewall of the receiver, i relieve a flat on the setting tool. |
