Gentlemen, Another first build here. I have a Romy kit that includes original barrel. Various suppliers sell barrel pins of larger diameters. How do I know when I need one? When are they used? Thank-you in advance.

You will need a larger diameter barrel pin if when you set the headspace the original hole is not aligned, which will mean you have to drill a new, larger hole.

Even then I've stopped doing that. Just hard solder or weld up the slot and re-drill for a standard pin. In short, OP, if you're using an original barreled kit you probably won't ever need one. However, you should still check headspace to make sure you're still in the green.
